The forum will provide practical ideas and solutions on the following topics:
- The importance of care of creation
- Identification and management of environmental impacts in houses of worship
- Buildings and grounds—importance of maintenance in energy saving and prevention of pollution
- Native/drought tolerant plants in landscaping
- Water and stormwater—the relationship of water consumption to energy use and the importance of stormwater management in pollution prevention
- Specific energy saving measures
- Environmental education—tips for the home, public outreach, and worship
- How to conduct an environmental audit of your facility
- Tracking your progress—benchmarking and using an environmental report card
- How to become certified as a Green Congregation
Greening the Congregation 2010 speakers include members of faith, science, education, environmental, business, and energy provider sectors coming together to learn and to encourage and support informed choices for care of creation. IEIA is committed to facilitating collaboration and information sharing to produce workable decisions and outcomes for sustainability in Alabama.
Registration: $15 per person includes lunch, refreshments, and forum materials. Congregations are encouraged to send 2-4 representatives, including a clergy member or faith leader if possible. To assure participation, please register by May 20, 2010. Scholarships are available. Contact Eleanor DelBene at eleanor@presence.org.
